Laser Hair Removal

Get smooth and stubble-free.

Unwanted body hair can be expensive, time-consuming, and painful to get rid of. Commonly-used methods, such as shaving, waxing, and depilatories, also result in hair growing back—often quickly. However, laser hair removal can help make bothersome hair removal a thing of the past.

Laser hair removal is safe for both men and women of varying skin types, skin tones, and hair types. It can also target hair in areas such as the upper lip, arms, chest, back, and legs. At EaglesMedi Spa, our Elite MPX laser platform gives us a wide range on controls, which allows us to deliver a more customized and targeted treatment for you.

Questions or Comments

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal uses pulses of light to target and heat up the hair follicle, which destroys the follicle’s ability to produce hair. After several treatments, patients should see permanent hair loss in the area of unwanted hair.

Is laser hair removal painful?

The laser pulses are similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin. Laser hair removal is typically less painful than waxing. Laser technology has also made great advances in ensuring that only the targeted hair follicles are treated, while avoiding the rest of your skin. First-time patients may experience more discomfort during the first few treatments, when there are more follicles to target. However, as the follicles are destroyed, there are less to treat and the procedure will become less uncomfortable.

Can patients with darker skin get laser hair removal?

At EaglesMedi Spa, we use the Elite MPX laser platform. This system gives us the advantage of using either or both of the gold standard wavelenths—the 755nm Alexandrite and 1064nm Nd:YAG. This gives us the ability to treat all skin types, skin tones, and hair colours. The 755nm Alexandrite is ideal for treating lighter-skinned patients (i.e. skin types I, II & III), while the 1064nm Nd:YAG is the best choice for darker-skinned patients (i.e. skin types V & VI). The MultiPlex system can also sequentially deliver both types of wavelengths, to provide customized treatments that are faster and more effective than other laser treatments. Multiplex also allows us to select different wavelength combinations or IPL, and adjust pulse durations. This allows us to deliver highly customized treatments and more flexibility in treating a variety of skin types.

What are the most popular areas for laser hair removal?

The most popular areas for laser hair removal include facial hair, underarm and bikini line for women, and back hair for men.

How is laser hair removal different from electrolysis hair removal?

Laser hair removal is quicker because it treats many hairs per laser pulse, as compared to electrolysis hair removal, which treats only one hair follicle at a time. Laser hair removal for small- to medium-sized areas, such as the underarms, can be performed in less than 20 minutes.

Is the Alexandrite laser the best choice for my skin and hair?

The Alexandrite laser is considered to be the gold standard laser for lighter skin types. However, if your skin is darkly pigmented, you will get the best results with the Nd:YAG laser.

Should I be worried about "radiation" to my skin?

Radiation can be categorized by “Non-Ionic” and “Ionizing” radiation types. Hair removal lasers produce the “non-ionizing” type, which is simply the radiation of light. This type has also been cleared as safe for your skin by the FDA. Ionizing radiation is produced by x-rays, ultraviolet light, and nuclear radiation, which is a completely different type of radiation and not produced in any capacity by hair removal lasers.
